About Us

JLZ Business Services, Inc. began life more than two decades ago as a mom-and- pop business services firm specializing in gas station accounting. Although we still maintain a niche with gas stations and convenience stores, our clientele has expanded into many other areas- restaurants, contractors, auto shops, hair salons, physicians’ offices, private schools, and many more. The original owners have since settled into semi-retirement to enjoy their golden years, but JLZ Business Services, Inc. remains locally-owned and operated. All of us here worked directly with the founders for many years and are committed to the same high standards set and maintained by them.
At JLZ Business Services, Inc.,  we work with numbers but we never lose sight of the people behind those numbers. That’s why you can expect personal, friendly service and real-life human interaction. We know your time is valuable and you will never be routed through a phone tree or made to wait endlessly on hold. During business hours, we respond to every call that comes in and return every message left for us. This is just as true for emails as it is for phone calls.

Matthew BigelowMatthew Bigelow, president of JLZ Business Services, Inc., became involved in the accounting world through income taxes. While maintaining a career as an elementary school teacher, he worked seasonally for a major tax preparation company, eventually earning the designation of “Enrolled Agent” (the highest credential awarded by the IRS to a tax preparer).  Deciding he wanted to provide more personal tax service, he left the big tax company and the elementary school, launching his own independent tax practice. This led to a collaboration with the original owners of JLZ, and gradually, Matthew learned the other elements of the business. When the owners began to speak of a desire to transition into semi-retirement, Matthew took over the business and incorporated it to become JLZ Business Services, Inc.

Matthew lives in Ventura, CA and likes time with his family, going to the beach and helping his clients better understand their businesses and their taxes. And while he is no longer employed as a teacher, he continues to volunteer regularly at same school where he once taught.

ESorianoElizabeth Soriano, born and raised in Ventura County, joined us in 2023 after a career in non-profits. She is an organized and dependable office assistant with experience supporting daily operations in our busy office. She is skilled in managing schedules, coordinating client communications, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring administrative tasks are handled efficiently and on time. With a strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy, she plays a key role in keeping office workflows smooth and reliable while upholding strict confidentiality.

Outside of the office, she is an avid seamstress and dedicated crafter, bringing creativity, patience, and precision to every project. This experience has strengthened her problem-solving skills and eye for detail, qualities that naturally carry over into professional work. Known for a strong work ethic, adaptability, and positive attitude, she contributes both reliability and a thoughtful, creative perspective to the workplace.
